The music at HPC is varied, including both modern and traditional songs and hymns. The music team includes people of different ages with a range of musical gifts and backgrounds.

2020 into 2021

With Covid-19 restrictions in place, music, like other areas of church life, is very different to normal at the moment.  A number of our musicians are involved in recording songs for our online and in-person services.  At the same time, we’re making use of song resources being produced and shared by a range of Christian music organisations.  There’s also some live music-making taking place, for example for our Families Together for Jesus services.

Given the sad limitations on how we’re able to make music as a church family for the time being, we’ve taken the opportunity, during autumn 2020, of bringing some of our musicians together from their own homes in a lockdown song project.  Why not take a couple of minutes to listen to and watch the recording we’ve put together of the song There is Hope by Matt Weeks (Resound Worship).  Simply click on the video below.  We hope you enjoy it!

April 2021 Update

We’ve recently completed a second lockdown song project in time for Easter.  The result is a bright, lively and joyful rendition of the song He has Risen by Gerald Coates, Noel Richards and Tricia Richards.  Please have a listen…

Following the recent switch to livestreaming our Sunday morning services, we’re looking forward — as coronavirus-related restrictions are eased over the coming weeks and months — to resuming live music-making at church, beginning with small groups of musicians and ultimately adding the voices of the whole congregation.

Our choir sings for most 10.30am Sunday services, rehearsing (with our instumentalists) on most Friday evenings (7.30-9pm). The choir also sings for occasional special 6.30pm Sunday services, usually with three Friday evening rehearsals in advance (7.30-9.30pm).

Several instrumentalists (serving on a rota) play for 10.30 am Sunday services. In addition, one or two amplified singers help to lead the songs in some of these services, including our all-age services. Rehearsals normally take place on Friday evenings (normally 7.30-9.00 pm). Congregational singing at 6.30 pm Sunday services is usually led by the organ or piano. Around once a month, two or three other instrumentalists join in to create a small band.

Youth Band

Youth Band is for young people in Years 7-13 (aged 11 and upwards). It meets on Tuesday evenings during term-time, usually fortnightly, from 7.30 until 9.00 pm.

Junior Band

Junior Band is for children in Years 3-6 (aged 7-11). It meets on occasional Saturdays from 4.15 until 5.15pm.

Sound Reinforcement & Visual Projection
Musicians serve alongside those who operate the sound system and project song words for 10.30 a.m. Sunday services. Sound technicians often support the Friday evening musicians’ rehearsals.
Bell Ringing
There are eight bells at HPC. Bell-ringing practices take place on Monday evenings (7.30 p.m.). Bells are rung for Sunday morning and evening services and for special occasions.
